Officers reported they were contacted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.

A senior representative said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
